Who we are...

RoofTop Dance is a small organization dedicated to creating opportunities for emerging and established creators in field of movement and performance based art to present work.  Comprised of 5 individual artists, Benn Rasmussen, Anna Adams Stark, Raja Feather Kelly, Edward Rice, and Caitlin Marz, RoofTop Dance is the result of these shared, imaginative, and, critical values: Supporting innovative work in performing arts, the use and experience of non-traditional performance spaces, establishing a heightened sense of community support and involvement, while strongly encouraging the discourse thorough the entire process of curating, creating presenting, and performing works of art.

What we do...

Through their respective jobs and interest in the dance and performance communities in NYC, the producers of RoofTop Dance identify artists that share or are interested in the RoofTop Dance Mission: to shift creative practices into that which includes rigorous and inclusive discourse between artists and engage with audiences throughout their processes. RoofTop Dance began in 2010 as ChoreOBJECTography, an experiment in influence; using objects as a point of collective origin. The successful presentation of 25 artists over three events marked a major step in the establishment of a new artist run presenting series in Bushwick, Brooklyn.  Jessica Chen of J Chen Project andJason Andrews with NorteMaar are recognized for their inclusion as co-producers in 2010 and 2011.  

This past summer, RoofTop Dance invited 24 artists to participate in a new experiment: In groups of 6 the artists were asked to engage in conversation about their perspective on making work. From these conversations a set of questions were developed that served as a unifying component in the creation of their works and facilitated mid-way process showings.
